about

Picking with a steady beat, melancholic waiting mood. Grown from summer 2008 to spring 2009.

I know a lot of these late twens who wait for their moment. Waiting for the the time when they become people with their own success story after all these years of learning and sucking up. When they finally will be needed to shine, when they finally run their "open mile" (usually in their thirties and/or forties, before they settle for less again).

If it goes according to plan, you finish college and then start a wonderful career, grinding away. Or, you find yourself in a recession and there is nothing here for you. Or, you meet the right people in college and grab some opportunity.

Sometimes, there is more luck to it than we want to acknowledge. Meanwhile, you have your suit on and sleep with one eye open, but you're still a kid.

I always liked this song since I had started with the guitar idea for the verse and had the lyrics basically there, but I never knew in what mood to play it. Over time, the picking got better a lot of times, only because I wasn't ready to be finished with this song.

Now, imagine we sit on a lonely train station, all ready in our suits with the suitcases packed, but no train in sight.

lyrics

This is a waiting room - and I just don't know why
all our numbers get counted by
All these children sleep in their suit with one eye open
Hell I just don't know why
This is a changing room and I hear you cry
crying for my flesh and the steam I hold inside

I am tired
waiting for my open mile
All will be easy with my open mile

This is an empty room - and I just don't know why
dark squares on the wall and a cold blue light
I'm gonna build a house and fade away with it
Hell I just don't know why
This is a changing room and I hear you cry
crying for my flesh and the steam I hold inside

I am tired
waiting for my open mile
All will be easy with my open mile

All we children sleep in our suits with one eye open

I am tired
waiting for my open mile
All will be easy with my open mile
