about

A dreamy song - guitar picking and voice(s). Arriving in a new life, writing a note to the future self. December 2007.

Upon arrival in Amsterdam, I had much to think about and not many people to talk to. During the writing of this song though, I understood what I wanted to look out for in the future. While that became clearer, some of the lyrics were replaced by less bitter ones and the song got a hopeful note. I was told that not everyone hears the hope in this one, but it is in there. Go figure.

The guitar play was originally more rythm-oriented and had much less picking, but before recording I noticed that this song should be calm.

Fun fact: I forgot to sing "only" in the first refrain, but I was in a good flow, so I just adapted the background vocals.

lyrics

My friend I hope you're understood below
they replace and replace until the end of the row

I wish I knew the man you want to be
and stop to mind if the mob or the wise men agree

And the wind only lives and dies
Writings on the wall only speak to you and I
I'm hurting you when I comply
The wind only lives and it dies

It's men like us who maybe never learn
The outside is just a way for the inside to burn

I hope you tell your friends about me proudly
and make my story sound like I knew where I was flowing
